Radio One’s Big Weekend Event Location
The big weekend event will take place in Stewart Park, a big open park with plenty of character, history and heritage including the birthplace of Captain James Cook! Stewart Park is in the suburb of Marton in the south of Middlesbrough, about 20 minutes drive from the Town Centre, whilst a good choice of location for the Big Weekend, the location choice is not without its problems, the main problem been parking / traffic.
Parking & Traffic
We do not know what event organisers have planned in terms of parking and traffic management for the event but this area of Middlesbrough is very heavy on traffic at given times of the day, locally known as the “Marton Crawl”. There is also very little existing parking areas around the location, and with only one entrance/exit to access Stewart Park, parking inside the park as you would on a normal day seems impossible, so please take this into consideration if you are travelling to Middlesbrough by car, do your research and find areas around the event location to park and walk, or find parking near a local bus route. With mainly residential areas around the park you may need to park around 10/15 minutes walk from the event, in local pub and business car parks ( event organisers might provide parking areas closer to the event date )

With Middlesbrough been a relatively small town we do not have an abundance of large hotel, however you can find some smaller hotels close to the event location and some larger hotels in the town centre around 15-20 minutes drive from Stewart Park, one word of warning do not expect luxury from the majority of local accommodation, the smaller hotels are designed for one night stays usually for contractors working in the area, this is reflected in the price (unless hotels increase the prices during these dates) it costs around £50-£100 per night in most local hotels.

A popular pub / small hotel around 5 minutes drive, 20-30 minute walk from Stewart Park ( A straight walk down ladgate lane ) If the sun is shining the Blue Bell is a good place to have a few drinks before visiting the event, thanks to its large south facing beer garden.

Transport Links
Stewart Park’s location benefits from a regular bus route, with plenty of bus stops around the park and plenty of regular buses to and from Middlesbrough town centre. Use the Moovit website below ( Enter your “Start” point and the app will give you all local transport links and times ) There is also a small train station at Marton, again using the Moovit app you can view train times and train routes.
Middlesbrough Train Station
Middlesbrough Train Station is located in the Town Centre, there are usually a good amount of Taxis outside and the station is close to local bus routes, if you are unsure, jump in a taxi or walk to the bus station around (15 minute walk from the train station) from here you can find regular bus routes to Stewart Park and “Marton” area.

If you have any medical issues, accidents and emergencies during your visit to Middlesbrough, expect a heavy police and ambulance presence at the event however James Cook University Hospital is literally 5 minutes from Stewart Park on Marton Road.
